Internships

What is an internship?

An internship is a business placement offering a professional learning experience, and meaningful practical work related to your field of study or career interest. An internship is often built in as part of your degree programme, if not companies often offer summer placements.

An internship will give you the opportunity to explore career options and develop and learn new skills. It will also offer the employer the opportunity to bring new ideas and energy into their work and develop talent. and potentially build a pipeline for future full-time employees. An internship is a period of work that gives people – mostly students or graduates – the opportunity to gain new skills and experience in a profession they want to get into. They’re great for learning new skills, and can range in length from a couple of weeks to several months or even a year.

Internships can be part of your degree and will normally be 6-12 months during your degree. If your degree doesn’t include business placement.

Who is an internship for?

An internship is for undergraduates looking to get relevant experience in a role/company in their chosen field. Undergraduates wanting to build their profile with relevant work experience to support future applications will benefit from an internship.

The Pledge Access Summer Internship Programme

In 2022, The Cheshire and Warrington Pledge piloted the ‘Summer Internship programme’. The Pledge teamed up with a number of great local small employers to offer Paid Summer Internships to undergraduates who are from Cheshire and Warrington and who have gone away to study for a degree.

The Pledge aimed to show undergraduates from their local region that there are great opportunities to start their careers back in Cheshire and Warrington. Below are the links to the variety of paid internships that are available this summer.

Many of the opportunities are part-funded by the European Social Fund as part of the Cheshire and Warrington Access Programme.
